In less than a week we will be in a whole new decade. A decade – how is that even possible? I can’t believe how fast the 2010s flew by, and have been reflecting a lot lately on what 2019 brought.
Now if you look at magazines ( or the dot com version, because is it 2019 after all, and magazines are so 2009) you will see articles about things that should be left in 2019. Many of these types of articles list things that have to do with fashion trends or other fads. While I agree that man buns should not make it into 2020 ( unless you’re Chris Hemsworth because that man can pull off anything… i.e. overweight, drunk Thor was even a hottie in the latest Avenger movie ;)), I feel that there are more important things to leave back in 2019. Here are a few of them:
Whether it be an unhealthy relationship with a significant other, a family member, a boss or a friend, you deserve to soar into 2020 with positive, healthy relationships. You deserve to surround yourself with people who are supportive of you and your dreams. Roll with people who want to see you succeed.
Life is too short to spend our time trying to fix bad relationships. I am not talking about someone you have occasionally had arguments or disagreements with- I am talking about the toxic ones. A boss that doesn’t treat you with the respect that you deserve. The friends that stab you in the back, while smiling at your face. The boyfriend that isn’t there for you when you need him to be. The family member that chooses to treat you like dirt over and over again. There are plenty of people out there, and plenty of jobs that will treat you the way you should be treated. You just have to let go of the unhealthy relationships in order to let the healthy ones flourish.
“I am too tired”, ” I’m too busy”, “This is too hard”. These words are all words we use to take the easy way out. Sure, working 40 hours a week while raising a family is tough. Many of us have been there. Just remind yourself that EXCUSES DO NOT CREATE OPPORTUNITIES! Telling yourself that reaching a goal is too hard will never get you anywhere. Whether you want to start your own business, or are trying to eat healthy and exercise- creating new opportunities and habits takes hard work, and patience. Excuses hinder your ability to accomplish your goals.
Put that crap behind you! We all have skeletons in our closets and we have all made mistakes that we are not proud of! LET THEM GO! Remind yourself this next year ( and the years that follow) that YOUR PAST DOES NOT DEFINE YOU! Learn from your mistakes and move on. The same goes for others- their pasts do not define them, so remind yourself of that the next time you want to judge them for something they did in the past. Everyone deserves a fresh start, a clean slate – and that includes YOU!
Not Making Time for Yourself
I get it. You’re a mom, a daughter, a sister, a wife, a friend (etc.). You hold a lot of titles, and life is crazy busy. You work full time, or are a busy SAHM. You feel like you are constantly on the go, and sometimes you bite off more than you can chew. This year, make it a goal to create time for yourself. Read a book, or soak in a hot bubble bath once the kids go to bed at night. Take a nap while the babies are sleeping instead of doing the dishes in the sink. The dishes can sometimes wait. Put aside some money each month and get your nails done or buy yourself something new. Take care of yourself by making time for yourself. It is so important to do, both physically and mentally! It will beneifit both you and those around you.
Take a chance on yourself. Do that thing you have been wanting to do for years now. Go back to school. Change careers. Start over. Who cares if you’re 30, 40, 50? Open a new business. Start a blog. Ask for a raise. Run a marathon. What ever it is you want to do- go for it. Take a chance. You are never too old to reinvent yourself. Let go of any doubts you may have and just do it! Even if you “fail”- try again. You’ve got this!!!
So there it is, a list of 5 things I think everyone should leave back in 2019. What would you add to this list? Let me know in the comments below!
We at Outnumbered Mamas want to wish you all a happy, healthy and wonderful New Year!
