5 Ways To Help Reduce Pregnancy Anxiety

From the second you get those 2 pink lines, you want what is best for your child. And pregnancy can be stressful, especially if it is your first time. Even in subsequent pregnancies, they can be completely different than your first time and sometimes you just don’t know what is normal and what isn’t.

I was a ball of anxiety my first pregnancy, but the second time around I tried to take it a little easier. Here are some things that I did to try to reduce pregnancy anxiety.

Look forward to the next milestone.

I was terrified of miscarriage, and I had butterflies in my stomach at each ultrasound until I could feel my baby moving. To reduce some anxiety, I just tried to look forward to the next milestone. After my viability scan at 6 weeks I looked forward to my NT scan at 12 weeks. Then I looked forward to my 2nd trimester, anatomy scan, 24 week viability, 3rd trimester, etc. It helped having a pregnancy book and app to follow because then I would know what the next milestones were. Stay informed, but try not to use Dr. Google.

I don’t know how many times I googled things during pregnancy that sent me into a frenzy. Stay informed of things to watch out for, like cholestasis, or signs of other complications ( any good pregnancy book should be able to make you aware) but don’t use google, which brings me to my next point.

Trust your OB or Midwife.

If you don’t trust them, then maybe it is time to find one you do trust. Any concerns you may have, feel free to bring up to them.

Wait until you are further along in your pregnancy to join any birth club or pregnancy related Facebook and social media groups or message boards.

I joined a Due January 2019 Facebook group right away and it was so stressful seeing women leaving the group weekly due to miscarriages during the 1st trimester. It gave me unnecessary anxiety.

Be aware of what is going on in your body.

If you don’t feel like something is right, call your OB’s nurses line. If something feels off, trust yourself and get checked out. You may not know what is normal and what isn’t, but if you feel like something isn’t right, it doesn’t hurt to get it checked out. Your office has a nurses line for a reason. Trust yourself!
